TYPES OF SOLAR COOKERS |
| Broadly speaking ,there are two kinds of cookers available
in the market - parabolic cookers and boxcookers. Parabolic cookers use parabolic dishes to harvest the sun's energy from a larger area and focus it on the cooking vessel. The advantage - cooking is fast and frying is possible .The disadvantages - one has to stand in the sun roasting along with the food and the extreme heat produced can be dangerous.A new type of parabolic cooker reflect the concentrated sunlight through the kitchen window into the cooking vessel inside your kitchen, avoiding inconvenience and danger to the cook!on the other hand ,the box cookers are simple safe and easy to use. The box cooker consists of a shallow insulated box with a lid that has a polished reflector on the inside This helps to reflect the sunlight and make it fall on the double layered glass lid which can be shut once the food is placed in dishes is the shallow space. The cooking dishes are usually painted black for greater efficiency. However it is useful to remember that solar cooking can never be the sole means of cooking - because one can never rely entirely on the weather.Clouds and rain can ruin a wellplanned nemu unless you have a standby.Further you have to plan your meal in advance - there are no instant solar meals, and while you can dine by candle light ,you cannot cook at night.
