During a distinguished career, of over four decades, Dr. H.N. Sharan has made immense contributions internationally to the advancement and management of Renewable Energy Technologies and programs for Sustainable Development,.  His holistic work has focussed on Solar PV, Solar Thermal , Solar-Hybrid power systems, Wind energy, Biogas and Biomass based power plants, benefitting several countries in all continents. Dr. Sharan also evolved the concept of independent rural power producers (IRPPs) as a social market instrument to bring energy services to villages in the Third World and  has also contributed largely in formulating the government's energy policy in India.  

He is the President of  DASAG Energy Engineering Limited, Switzerland, which he established for development and commercialization of advanced Technologies with special focus on Renewable Energy and Energy Services for rural areas of the Third World and heads many other consulting and funding organisations in the field of Sustainable Energy.
